One of the original Christmas Gifts and primarily from Oman, Frankincense is a ‘must have’ to bring back home after your visit into the country.
Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) is both the name of the tree that is the source and the resin which is the product. The trees grow in the limestone mountains of Oman’s southern region, Dhofar.
The trees are not especially dramatic and yet for thousands of years their renown spread to ancient China in the East and Rome in the West. The resin is ‘tapped’ from the tree and after natural drying becomes the Frankincense granules that have been burned in the Church, Mosque, Temple and Synagogue since time immemorial.
