In the late afternoon hundreds of people joined a celebratory walk
from Mutairah village near Muttrah to Al Alam Palace.
It was to commemorate a procession on July 30, 1970 after Sultan Qaboos became ruler of Oman.
The Palace Muscat is the focus of a celebration.
