Spread over a 420 hectare site the Oman Botanic Garden is under development with an opening still a few years away.

I paid a visit to learn about this ambitious project which is a multi purpose one with herbarium (already the largest documented collection of Arabian plants in the world) , seed bank, educational facility, research and of course the garden.

This will display in 7 biomes ranging from sand desert to the cloud forest of Dhofar many of the 1,200 species of plant in Oman. Stands of trees & shrubs that have been specially cultivated stand along specimens which were ‘rescued’ from development projects throughout the country.
It will be interesting to see how the project develops.
