The Queen, aged 95, is still carrying out only light duties, after being obliged to rest by royal doctors and spending a night in hospital on 20 October. The Queen’s sapphire brooch originally belonged to Empress Marie Feodorovna, the Danish princess who became Empress of Russia as spouse of Emperor Alexander III of Russia. She was the sister of Britain’s Queen Alexandra, Queen Elizabeth’s great grandmother.
