Sultan Haitham bin Tariq met with Queen Elizabeth in Windsor Castle, London today,
on his first visit as Sultan of Oman. Sultan Haitham’s wife, The Honourable Lady, Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah Al Busaidiyah also made the visit.
Sultan Haitham is the 3rd Sultan of Oman that Queen Elizabeth has met – Sultan Said, Sultan Qaboos and now Sultan Haitham, though she has lived through 4 reigns of Sultans with Sultan Taimur abdicating in 1932.
The Queen, aged 95, is still carrying out only light duties, after being obliged to rest by royal doctors and spending a night in hospital on 20 October. The Queen’s sapphire brooch originally belonged to Empress Marie Feodorovna, the Danish princess who became Empress of Russia as spouse of Emperor Alexander III of Russia. She was the sister of Britain’s Queen Alexandra, Queen Elizabeth’s great grandmother.
