Oman will soon have one or two new entrants into its Taxi world.

Oman’s traditional unmetered Taxi service is in an Orange & White colour and has a negotiated fare system, based on a ‘known’ charge that makes it difficult for a visitor to obtain a ‘local’ rate; however as shared taxis they are by far the cheapest option countrywide.

Mwasalat Taxis which are to be operated by Oman’s government owned transport company will be a metered Taxi service in Muscat. Mwasalat intends to manage 150 taxis at Muscat International Airport, 150 at commercial centers and 200 taxis on call.

Currently the airport Taxis are a distinctive Teal & White colour and are a fixed price, pre-paid service from the Airport.

The 4th service may be Marhaba Taxis, an App based service that is focused on the tourist related industry, with a focus on the already slightly more modern taxis that wait at hotels.

Bradt’s 5th guide to Oman 2022 has completely rewritten regional chapters and maps. These cover Oman from the tip of Musandam’s peninsula, through to the hotels near the border with Yemen. Available from June 2022 at most online book stores incl Bradt and Amazon. (my earlier 4th Edition of the guide is still available at Bradt and Amazon)
