Driving back from Salalah to Muscat along the main road is usually a tedious journey; this time it was quite eventful. The static on the radio announced the storm well before it appeared.

Ferocious winds and heavy rain swept over the landscape near Nizwa and snapped electricity poles as if matchsticks. Fortunately, my vehicle is heavy and apart from a good washing showed no effects. Remarkably the storm was on the anniversary of the cyclone Guno .

In Muscat this morning I passed the port and saw the catamaran that will act as a passenger ferry along Oman’s northern coast. Catamarans seem the be the flavour of the year in Oman; our guests enjoy the existing catamaran yacht and I hope they will also like this new high-speed version . As it travelled from Australia, it set speed records for its type of vessel.
