Before we cruised into Sharjah, my fellow lecturer, Dr Alan Borg, who after retiring as Director of the V&A Museum has more time to give us an insight into the decorative arts, gave a very interesting overview of the architecture, both old and new, of the Arabian Peninsula.

Arriving into Sharjah we walked

around the Dhow creek where an extraordinary variety of goods were being loaded. From there close to the old fort we passed a wonderful mosque with Persian tiles, just as the prayers had finished.

Then an unexpected pleasure, we were invited into the currently closed Aircraft Museum at Sharjah and walked around this hidden gem of a place.
