After the night with Anouar Brahem & Randy Weston we went in for more eastern ‘fusion’ with an evening of music at the Royal Opera in Muscat
by Omar Faruk Tekbilek.His music ranges from Sufi style to a more modern variety that seemed to verge on Hip Hop. The evening was better attended than the other night, though he wasnt as adept at encouraging crowd response as Randy Weston.
I wonder if the almost overwhelming Royal Opera takes away the connection between audience and performer that Jazz & Eastern music draws on.
