Grand Fish Restaurant

We had a meal at the Grand Fish Restaurant near Muscat City Centre. It’s clearly a popular place, as mid-week all indoor tables were full and doubtless if it wasnt for the rain the outside ones would have been used as well.

Sticking to its theme we had Fish Soup and Prawn Soup followed by Seafood with Rice and Hamour with Chips. The soup came with generous chunks of the fish and prawn in what tasted like a familiar ‘cream of mushroom’ base.

The main course was disappointing, with the filleted  Hamour still having much of its skeleton and a surprising number of scales. Its texture came close to that of de-frosted fish. The rice, though perhaps basmati had non of that rice’s fragrance or texture when cooked well. With the dearth of fish restaurants in Muscat the Grand Fish Restaurant will doubtless continue to be popular, though we are unlikely to return; despite a very tempting Banana & Coffee fresh juice and pleasant, efficient staff.
