after a nice Horse Ride under the Coconut Palms of Salalah
Underneath the coconut trees of Salalah with parakeets squawking overhead , it hardly seems like Arabia – but thats what I got during a break in Oman. The cool weather of summer in Salalah is so un-Arabian that taking an Arab Horse ride gives an authentic part of Arabia and is a great opportunity to take some leisurely exercise.

Afterwards Continue reading “Coconuts from Arabia”

Somewhere underground is water – but in a parched landscape with a shimmering heat haze – where?

Over the stony landscape we searched Continue reading “Omans shimmering mountains”
during a stopover in Muscat
A few days stopover during long distance flight via Oman is a great way to make the journey more comfortable – and see a new country (if you haven’t come before) .

Over a couple of days Oman tour we journeyed up to Oman’s mountain heights where in cooler air we took a nice wadi walk.
of England draw
With a great start the shisha smoking crowd here in Muscat were behind England

needing ongoing attention
With so much rain cascading into Oman and Bahla Fort recently its a reminder why concrete is such a great building material; and even with that so many houses have been damaged by floods.

missing from Oman
A bit different
Camel polo – using not the original camel the Dromedary – but the impostor, the two humped variety – a Bactrian .
on the way to watch Omans Turtles
On the way to watch the Green Turtles in Oman we took a ferry to get into a wonderful wadi. Despite the heat the wadi was full of birdsong and greenery.

After a very good evening watching the turtles, we were thrilled the next morning to be able to see the last one return to the sea, making a nice memory of this tour in Oman .

for a Wedding
With shades of blue , bagpipes and cheers – it could be for events in Britain . But on Tuesday night I was at a wedding in Muscat and really enjoyed the enthusiastic entertainment .

a journey
Making the most of Oman’s coast Ernest Meili took a journey down the 1700kms or so of Oman’s coastline. He talked about his experience, in one of the best talks held by the ESO.

I really look forward to doing the same journey with Nobel Caledonia on their Oman Cruise and hope my talks will be as interesting.
in the mountains and desert
Though weve had a few refunds to make because of the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano we also had people who could arrive for their Oman Holidays and fortunately leave on schedule afterwards.
For one we travelled during the latter part of April through the Omans desert and mountains. April is of course when Oman ‘hots up’ but its also when the Roses bloom making for great scenery and unexpected subjects.

Then through storms Continue reading “Oman Photos”
on the road warning signs
Our guests here on their Oman Holidays and Camels, though dwarfed by the sand dune they needed to ascend, eventually made their way to the top and , importantly, back down.

Here in Oman Camels are not confined to Oman’s sand deserts – and a souvenir photo makes a good reminder of the many different places they are found .

is being prepared for in Salalah
Though it’s a few months away the preparations for Oman 40th National Day on 18th November 2010 are under way.

Here, in Salalah, new street lighting is being put up – the main road to Thumrait & Muscat has been done up to the foothills and it looks as though all arterial routes in town will soon have their own striking light system.

– well away from my swimming beach but getting closer
It looks as if its not only cruise ships that are coming into Oman from a long way away. Yesterday Pirates are off Oman about 150kms from Sur & Masirah Island – the last such indecent was over a year ago – better not swim a long way from the shore
what a great gig
Tom Jones will play in Oman says HiFM .

Well done – and it looks like somebody worked hard to get it – as he arriving in a month and its not on his own web site. Be interesting to see if he breaks the magic 30 Rial barrier .
